So, you're dreaming of a new life under the Spanish sun, but the complexities of post-Brexit regulations are giving you pause. Don’t worry! Moving to Spain is still possible for UK citizens—it just requires a little more planning and accomodating to certain circumstances.
This post breaks down 5 visa options available to those looking to move, so take a look through and consider what fits your circumstances.
1. Non-Lucrative Visa: The Perfect Option for Financial Independence
Are you looking to enjoy the relaxed Spanish lifestyle without the need to work? The Non-Lucrative Visa might be your golden ticket. Designed for those who can support themselves financially, it’s a great fit for retirees, investors, or anyone with a stable passive income.
What You Need: Proof of financial stability (around €28,800 annually), private health insurance, and a clean criminal record.
Perks: You can live in Spain full-time, renew your visa, and even apply for permanent residency after 5 years.
Remember though you are not able to work on this visa, so it can be great for retirement or short team moves but if you want to work you will have to start applying for other visas.
1. Digital Nomad Visa: Work Remotely, Live in Spain
If you're a freelancer, entrepreneur, or remote worker, Spain’s upcoming Digital Nomad Visa is tailor-made for you. This visa allows you to live in Spain while working for companies or clients outside the country.
What You Need: Proof of remote work, a minimum income requirement (around €25,000 annually), and private health insurance.
Perks: Live in Spain while earning abroad, with full access to the Schengen area.

3. Self-Employment Visa: Build Your Business in Spain
This is not the easiest of visas but there is a lot of flexibility if you are able to provide all the documentation required. This visa requires you to be already on an inital form of residency so you would first need to get into country on another visa such as the non-lucrative and then you can apply for the Self-Employment Visa from there. It is important to note here that your business would need to be supporting the Spanish economy so you would be providing a service in country. So if you're dreaming of starting your own business the Self-Employment Visa (or Autónomo Visa) lets you do just that. Whether you want to open a café or work as a freelancer, this visa is perfect for entrepreneurs.
What You Need: A solid business plan, proof of financial resources, and relevant qualifications.
Perks: Run your business, integrate into the Spanish economy, and apply for permanent residency after 5 years.
4. Golden Visa: Invest Your Way to a Spanish Life
Now I know this is going to be removed BUT while that is announced nothing has yet been officially acted so if you want to move on the Golden Visa I would recommend being quick. If you’ve got the capital by investing €500,000 in Spanish real estate (or other qualifying investments), you can secure residency for yourself and your family.
What You Need: A qualifying investment, proof of funds, and health insurance.
Perks: Travel freely within the Schengen zone, enjoy a fast-track residency process, and have the option to renew every 5 years.
5. Work Visas: For Those Seeking Employment
One of the hardest to get post Brexist admittedly but there are companies in Spain that advertise for positions to move people. So if you hunt hard enough you will definitely encounter a few of these. While securing a job offer can be competitive, it’s a solid option for professionals in demand and if the country is lacking people with a smiliar skillset. Id recommend focusing on positions that want a Native English speaker, these can be good ins for getting a visa.
What You Need: A contract from a Spanish employer and proof that no local candidates can fill the role.
Perks: Gain residency in Spain while working, with the potential for permanent residency after 5 years.
